Laverne Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Laverne

She’s an irresistible pup of two years
But her owner has had enough
Of her shenanigans and floppy ears
Finding her a new home will be tough

One day a workman came to make repairs
Laverne stole his attention right away
They hit it off and made an affable pair…
Soon she was going home with him to stay

She hopped up into his pickup truck
Sitting at his side…taking in the view
Quite the prize… she didn’t cost a buck
With a smile and a tail wag… friendship grew

Here we are…this is your new home
The kids and wife are gonna love you
Laverne gazed… was there space to roam?
Exiting the vehicle excitedly… she had to poo

Entering the spotless home she sniffed
There was an aroma of possible trouble
Another dog… was this cause for a rift?
Introductions went well…hearts were full

Laverne placed claim to a sofa cushion
Curling her head to tail she began to grin
Not a chance…this habit was quickly undone
In a short time…novelty began to wear thin

Perhaps a walk on a leash will appease
Both dog lover and charming canine pal
Laverne quickly had an inclination to freeze
Refusing to be led…she was a sad gal

It is evident that Laverne has her quirks
Compatibility is tested…now she is shun
It seems that everything she does…irks!
What’s the solution…surely there is one

Day two: It seems that during the night
Laverne took a liking to slipper chewing…
Waking to stomping feet…she had a fright
Scolding bubbled over …unrest was spewing

Resolving the situation will be a big achievement
Sounds of unloading chain link fencing and posts
Are a prelude to a partial answer to the predicament
A secure yard with lots of room will help the most

Laverne is happily back in good graces
She now guards and chases away squirrels
She fetches a ball from the farthest yard places
Receiving pats and praises from boys and girls

In the evening her indoor presence is welcome
Laying quietly on her very own doggy pillow
Knowing her place…with her bowl… yum
With understanding…approval is bestowed
