Learning To Settle Poem by Aimee Rozen

Learning To Settle

You asked me to leave with you today
and I said yes.
It would be so easy for me to pick up and leave
since I lost the only thing worth dying for.
He was the reason I woke up.
But I've lived the past year without him.
That's a year of waking up without a reason.
So, here I am, posed with a question
and I can't think of a single reason to say no;
because I have no investment in you;
somehow that makes it easier.
A part of me wants to run far away
from where I am and who it has made me.
You give that dream a channel to reality.
Though you're not the man of my dreams
I'm willing to settle.
I mean... what else is there?
