Leave Me Alone Poem by Francis Kokutse

Leave Me Alone

On a Monday, the Pastor said
you fed on my destiny and killed
all my dreams and hopes.
Then, you returned to tease me of
all that l could have achieved but failed.

He said on Tuesday you killed my joy
and that was the day that Effia died
because you and your friends fed on her
on that high tree in the night.
So, why have you come to call me
a bachelor who cannot marry

It was on a Wednesday night
just as my success was coming
the lorry that carried the men of
goodwill died in a car accident
and the Pastor says it was your
fault that this happened and
what justification do you have to
call me a never-do-well?

I know l have worked hard all my life
but have nothing to show for it
and this is the reason of what you did on a Thursday
when you dug a pit and burried all my
riches in a rituals that was performed
on the Densu in the middle of the night.
why would you now come to me and ask
for alms knowing very well that l have
nothing to give you.

The Evangelist told me that it was
on a Friday that you decided that
my wife's womb was to feasted upon
and this happened on the Afadzato.
Do not therefore call me names
because my household has no
children to play in the compound.
