Leavings Poem by Paul Carlson

Leavings

Bleeding pavement
under a lukewarm sky
Trees standing defiant
to winters chill
stripped and naked
with their leavings
at their feet
beside the bloodwarm pool
yet we feel not these things
wrapped in our leavings
and reason on our side
