Left With Yourself Poem by Camille Casserly

Left With Yourself

Rating: 3.5

Left with yourself
The crowd's armour melts away
Alone one head remains
Without mask
Unstirred in company
The self needs others selves to blend

Unblended;
Unarmoured;
Unmasked;
What kind of companion will you be?
If forced to live in your own company,
Could you do it happily?
Or would you find it difficult
To share your life alone?

Spare yourself unhappiness
Do not for convenience sake be deceived
Fall not into the error of dependence
Be not fooled by false perception
Be ever self aware
Moreso, not less,
When your company is a Crowd

Safety in numbers
Is the grandest illusion
Seekers of comfort in crowds
When left alone to stand, will fall

Their voices ring loud
With crowd as accompaniment
But somehow become mute and dumb
When tasked to talk alone
Having nothing to say -
No voice to call its own.

The crowd of a thousand
Two thousand legs strong
Each pair belonging to the body of one
If you find yourself amongst such a crowd,
Let your legs do your walking,
Stand on your own though not alone.
