Let Me Live Poem by Girija Menon

Let Me Live

Rating: 5.0

Just a SPECK today, housed in a dome
I am told it's called a womb
Still not ready and yet to take form
To enter this world as is the norm

With life within me, which the world cannot see
I can feel and hear noises loud and clear
A bit uneasy and a heart filled with fear
I grow day by day within this sphere

I gather, I will be a female
Unable to comprehend the actual tale
Hoping to feel and see the world some day
With a mind and body that is growing everyday.

I understand I may be forced to end my journey
By people who think I am not worthy
To enter this world and enjoy its’ beauty
Though I am a gift from the almighty
Having my right to be part of this planet's entity

So hear me as I weep in silence
Hoping you hear my prayer with patience
Give me a chance to see the brightness
Feel the warmth of my mother's tenderness
Accept me without bitterness
I will prove to be worthy of my existence

So people I am your only savior
The official designated carrier
To save your kind (mankind) from extinction
I guess you have no option
But to welcome me with respect
And a suitable citation
