Today
I pray for a healing light for Bangladesh
My beloved country ocean apart
Just a spark of light
Glowing and calm
Let the spell of light cast over the
Wounded souls millions in number in every corner
Let the wounds of war, walls and partition be healed
Of culture of treachery, backstabbing and hate
Of conspiracy, murder, bombing
Of autocracy, oligarchy, misogyny, hegemony
Of democratic dynasty, regimes of serial injustice
Let there be light to view the greatest delta on the Earth
As mother's womb of creation
Field of all possibility
A land of justice and dignity for every life
Transcending the labels
Of woman, man, Muslim, Bengali, Adibasi, Hindu, Buddhist
And so on
Let the infinite creative minds flow like mighty Meghna
Wash away the bogs and clogs of separation
Let us mingle in the Bay of Bengal like millions of graceful rivers
Let us dance like fishes in joy of being here
Let the law of love prevail
Let that golden quiet light
Drips down from each leave of the trees
In my Bangladesh Today.
