Let Us Say Goodbye Poem by Tiya Sen

He said to me, ' Let us say goodbye, '
that is all it took for all the joy in me to die.
Maybe his eyes for all this time I had misread.
Maybe my heart let my head get misled.
But as the world around me went on so did I,
I smiled my last smile looking in his eye.
For I couldn't live with myself if I let him know,
it was killing me from the inside to let him go.
I remembered an unabashed promise I had made to him,
I wouldn't make him suffer if I ever had a change of heart on a whim.
I know he needs to blossom and grow,
but I can't help but wish we didn't reach a dead-end to do so.
Hence, I turned and walked away brusquely,
before my will and strength failed me.
I decided my tears were not his to see,
because not for a single moment did I want him to feel guilty.
