Letter To The Future Generation Poem by Richard Phiri

Letter To The Future Generation

This is my letter to future generation,
To Whom It May Concern. Dear future generation this letter I write to you
I write to you with a heavy and contrite,
bruised and full of regrets and now am used to this feeling I guess,
See its 3AM but I still find myself wide awake,
seated on my desk with a pen in my hand and with a pain in my heart so sharp it cuts my heart in half
Guilt is the chain that binds me,
I am a slave to these memories which my mind reminds me of,
See my head is a prison like Michael Scofield am always hoping to break out of but I can never do
because its nearly impossible to get out of these wall painted with failure and disappointments am always reminiscing about as I lay scared on my bed
Yes I fear for you,
see am afraid we left this place un-conducive for you,
and let me start off by saying I am sorry
I'm sorry that you have been exposed to a messed up history,
I'm sorry that your history books don't have real men you can look up to because only a few where upright before God and instead of building stronger relationships,
we were busy building sky scrapers for you to look up to
I'm sorry that we preferred revenge to reconciliation,
and chose wars over peace talks and that should explain just why the weaponry industry became the most lucrative business
I'm sorry that we worshiped science over God and that explains the many false predictions,
I'm sorry that we never had time for you,
see your mothers were busy slaying their dignity as your fathers drunk off their destinies and that explains why you have grown up to be as irresponsible and wayward as they were
See an apple does not fall far from the tree and you are the image of our reflection and that's quite clear
I'm sorry that most of you are orphans, see the young in my time fill up the grave yards they say YOLO,
you only live once so we lived life like there was no tomorrow, and just like that so many young lives were cut short,
And ignorance was the disease affecting the populace,
with so much ease they scripted our lives and we played cast,
Fooled by what we so on TVs yes we danced to every tune played to us
so every bad thing you are experiencing now goes back to our poor decisions
We defiled God's word and condoned homosexuality
Vehemently opposed change and made immorality a norm and that explains why walking half naked in public is no longer considered as an illicit behavior
See our role models were raw models that were partially cooked and very bad for consumption and now the chain goes on and on because our generations are literally linked together
I'm sorry that you are made to pay for the repercussions of our actions,
see we never played smart when the ball was in our yard and now we've been relegated to death without finding the solution to the problem caused
But I pray that as you do the math I HOPE that you do find the root of your life, which only leads down to God for He is the ultimate factor you will forever need in your life With love #Jae
