Letting Go At The Crossroads Poem by DAVID TERRY

Letting Go At The Crossroads

I’m letting go of you now
And I really don’t know how
To separate what I feel
From what has become real
That you have left and gone away
All our love is yesterday
For us is no tomorrow
And now only sorrow
If only I could take it back
Restrain my words’ attack
Maybe you would take back too
What you said and did untrue
Now all that really matters
Is the love I see in tatters
As I stand here at the road-cross
And contemplate a new choice
Of whether to stay or go now
Of how to let you go now
It’s a place I’ve never been before
A lonely place forevermore
Our words and choices brought us here
And now the last time I’ll tell you dear
For you I would have lived and died
For you I should have slain my pride
I could not abide what you did choose
Not seeing how you chose to lose
The hold you held upon my heart
And with it now I give sad part
As I take this step on a new way
A way whose journey starts today
As I look back at us one last time
And memorize the loving rhyme
Of how I have always loved you so
But now I choose to let you go
