Lies Poem by Steph Allen

Lies

I=ve woken every morning
To face the day ahead
The lines that are worn
The smile that fades fast

My words were spoken softly
The lies were hidden well
Running through the motions
No one could ever tell

My heart was breaking rapidly
My mind screaming unheard
The empty laugh, the cold touch
My body just an used shell

My eyes would search the room
Wanting someone to notice
But the deceit was so well practised
I was fine, contented, normal

The truth is so exhilarating,
But the backs and silence are not
Decisions not just to be made, but live with
Nightmares plague me, but I won't turn back
