Life Drags On Poem by Lone Dog

Life Drags On

Life drags on.
The hours, the days, the weeks
Drag on.
Like a flintless lighter,
The spark that used to ignite
My interest is gone.
Nothing excites me.
Nothing rekindles the flame.
Nothing seems able
To awaken my spirit -
To recreate happiness and joy;
Not the song of a bird,
Not the hues of a flaming sunset,
Not a cluster of golden daffodils
Dancing in the sunlight.
Life has taken on grayish hues
And each day is filled with listlessness
And melancholy and hopelessness.

And the hours drag into days
For I've somehow lost my way,
And life's not worth the living anymore.
I'll be glad to reach the end
When I round the final bend,
Then the dragging days and hours will drag no more.
