Life Is Just Short Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Life Is Just Short

The world turns while we sleep
while the world turns,
somewhere, others weep
and like the undertow of the tide
they keep their hurt and pull it inside

In my dreams I hear their silent tears
and wish they would deposit them here
because I'd take theirs if it made them smile
because all we have in life is a little while

While once upon a time ago
life once seemed long
in the blink of an eye it could be gone
and what if we never chance to sing our song
or remind others they're loved
and that despite their broken hearts
they do belong

Because I have learned those most downtrodden
the lonley, abandoned, sad, poor, hungry, lonely and forgotten
are the sweetest fruit of the earth
and not the rotten
I've seen their hearts and feel blessed to see
they're not so different
really, just the same as me
and this realization has set me free
to express the love I feel inside of me
perhaps I'm not so bad as I thought myself to be
and the one I love will oneday walk with me
We have much more of this world to take in
and more to be
