Life unfolds the same—
For the saint and for Satan.
Both face night and dawn's flame,
Yet choose their destination.
The sun rises on both—
On the sacred and the profane.
The wind sings through their windows—
In meadows and deserts alike.
Rain kisses their skin the same—
On rocky cliffs and tender plains.
Yet one who walks in light
Sees night as a herald of dawn,
A storm as the prelude to color,
A sorrow as a whisper of joy.
The other, lost in shadow,
Sees night as a curse,
A storm as the world's spite,
A sorrow as a wound that never heals.
Heaven and Hell—
Not places drawn on a map,
But the light of the heart,
The color of the mind,
The divine song of the soul—
As heard on the day of Alast.
