Life Vs. Death Poem by Allyson Gordon

Life Vs. Death

There’s a dark pit,
I’m looking down into it.
All around me is light and happiness
But all I can think about is darkness.
I hear children laughing and playing
I contemplate staying
But then I decide,
To jump in the ditch and hide
I can still see the distant light
Part of me wants to make things right
I know that if I get out of this den
I could easily fall back in again
Why don’t I just sit here and die?
What’s stopping me? Why don’t I?
Because I couldn’t do that to you
After everything you’ve been through
That’s why I hate feeling this way,
Not being able to fade away.
I wish I didn’t love you so,
That way I could let go.
