Like The Sword Of Damocles Poem by Marilyn Shepperson

Like The Sword Of Damocles

Tears are very near the surface
Holding them back takes all the strength
Of my heart and maybe more than I can spare
The future is about to come crashing down
I feel like a river, heading for a waterfall
For I can no longer count upon your love
You are like an ostrich, laying your head upon the ground
Putting off facing the inevitable
I am terrified to my very core
My soul knows not which way to turn
But though I'm shaking inside
I will stand as tall as I can
Facing what's to come, with open eyes
Though it be the death of everything
Even the death of me
