Could you only know as you pass on by
To live your days in silent solitude.
When the World will see but a shy recluse,
The Modest dress of one so unnoticed.
A soft quiet tread by a Whispered voice,
Library books yielding Georgian Romance
Telling of promising declarations.
Diary filled pages like untrodden Snow,
To see oneself as a lone wilting Rose
Amongst the Garland of radiant bloom.
But for myself you are all ‘Bathsheba'
Wessex girl and intruder of frail Hearts.
‘Madam X' to attack the dull senses,
Tzarina of all Russia to the eyes,
The sad Soulful Queen of the flowing Nile,
Helen who fanned the flames of Wars desire,
Rose upon the Ocean to the New World,
The ‘Belle Epoque' that shatters all my peace.
You are all these and so much more besides,
The very essence of all that is rare.
Could you only know, Could you only know
How much you do effect and confuse me,
But afraid to reveal my yearning Heart.
