Lines Written On Hearing That Denis Kelleher Had Been Ill

Denis Kelleher had not been feeling well his son Mick to me did say
But he is feeling better now and home in Claraghatlea
And he is feeling better now sweet music to the ear
And he is out of hospital such good news good to hear.

I've known Denis Kelleher most of my life ever since I've been a lad
And he is a good and kindly man in him there is no bad
Yes he is a good and kindly man good as you'd wish to meet
One of the best the best there is in the Parish of Millstreet.

He worked as hard as any man on none he'd turn his back
He worked when there was work to do and never once did slack
He woke each morning in the dark and out to greet the sun
And walked and fed and groomed his hounds when his days work was done.

And greyhounds are his great passion his great passion in life
And I often met him walking hounds with Margaret his dear wife
He'd stop and talk with me awhile tell how his hounds had done
Of races they should not have lost and races they had won.

And though I live in a distant Land and I live miles away
From Millstreet Town and Clara hill and miles from Claraghatlea
It saddened me to hear that my good friends health of late had broken down
But glad to hear he's well again and home near Millstreet Town.
