Listen Poem by Cindy Thacher

Listen

A dog barks, I hear
the owner call, somewhere near,
A siren is heard in the distance
with ominous persistence,
Down the street, a car horn
is heard to warn
the wandering child
of the ball game gone wild,
A plane is heard over my head
I plug my ears, for it is said
White noise impairs one's ability to hear,
Therefore, I must save my ears
To hear, to listen;
Pay attention, closely attend,
From beginning to end,
Please, take the time to
STOP!
and listen, not just hear, but
LISTEN.
