Living A Masquerade Poem by Howard Michael Bricker

Living A Masquerade

Day after day, year after year,
the sands of time sifted through her hands
whenever and wherever she looked
finding only lonliness,
only emptiness.
Helplessly, she watched the years go by
trapped in a desert
somewhere in the wilderness
Unable to stem the sands in the hourglass of her life
So many years of crying within
So many years of living in strife
of not living a life
her search for hapiness seemed futile
Was there nothing really out there?

So many years of living a masquerade
feigning contentment,
happiness
laughter
Then somewhere out in the middle of the desert of life
she found an oasis
as did another
Two people searching for love
stumbled into paradise
discovering love
Their pathway to happiness challenging
With love they emerged from the desert
To find their paradise
together
