Living In A Low Trust Society Poem by Mark Doubleyou

Living In A Low Trust Society

Living in a low trust society,
I've learned to keep parts of myself quiet.
Preparing for the collapse of empire
has kept me from planning for retirement.
has kept me from feeling at home in myself
or yours.
its not worth it…
investing in empire.
It may seem like the safest bet,
but its betting on your own demise.
its betting on your own captivity.
indefinite servitude to a higher authority
trusting
in an imperial force to provide you with any kind of future?
the eternal hotel room is all you get
can you afford room service?
Or just making due on the continental buffet,
while the kings suite indulges in conquest of the continent
may they rename a fire escape ladder in my honor
may I get a shout out on the doctor bronners label
may I ever be remembered when someone orders a gibralter
may the notions of luxury be re-examined
may the simplicity of wonder be rediscovered
may the outskirts ever remain hospitable
may the consequences of resistance always be freedom
may the consequences of resistance always be freedom.
