Living In China Poem by Raymond Farrell

Living In China

Today
As I sit
Under the locust tree
I reflect on living in China
In this city
Of Hangzhou
Where I am
I get by
With little knowledge
Of Chinese
Simple gestures
Carry great meaning
Nodding and bowing
Smiling and waving
Shaking hands
And simple greetings
Have served
To open the door
To valuable
And genuine friendships
Which I will cherish
For the rest of my life.
