Living It Poem by Karl McAreavey

Living It

I lost my soul deep within a whirlpool of dreams
Reality bit hard as nothing is what it first seems
I took my chances at the risk to my own sanity
Underestimated the whole world and its pure vanity

Foolishly I sowed my seeds of hope upon barren ground
Trampled on one by one as they each were easily found
Fervently I hoped I would find the elusive pot of gold
Found the rainbows end but already it had been sold

I realised then just how expendable we really are
To use you selfishly the world is too eager by far
I wish that I could at least shelter from life and its rain
Although age brought me wisdom alas also so much pain

I remember something I was told such a long time ago
Nothing lasts forever a fact sadly I now so well know
So many times I have battled furiously against my own will
Swallowed again and again life's hard bittersweet pill
I will never give up will never jump from life's turbulent ride
Never go with the flow and defiantly I stand against the tide
