Living Life Poem by Nicole Guess

Living Life

When I look in the mirror,
I see me,
The way God intended us to be,
Even with the bumps and bruises.

When I look in the news,
I feel apart
Of the world around me.
But disgusted with society.

When I look down the street,
I see the variety,
Between Adam and Eve.
And sins made before me.

When I look at my home,
I feel love
From my memories
And hatred
Of change.

When I look at my friends,
I see the relationships
I’ve built over time,
And the ones I’ve destroyed.

When I look to the past
I feel accomplished inside,
I hear the voices of seasons,
I touch the sore mistakes of before,
I taste the white lies I’ve told,
And I smell the stench of the cruel.
But most of all.
I see the good I have to offer
To the world,
Before and after my demise.

Now when I look for my future,
I see the tree of belief,
Belief in myself.
I can erase the wrong,
And highlight the right.

I can see a tomorrow
Beyond you and me.
Because I believe in myself.

I live for today,
And create the memories
Of yesterday,
For tomorrow.
A new day,
A cleansed day,
With no beginning nor end.
Not wrong nor right.
A clean slate,
So seize the day.
For tomorrow is not today
And today is not yesterday
Nor yesterday tomorrow.
Only today.
