Living Proof Poem by Michelle Cook

Living Proof

i smile
to hide the pain
i work hard
to hide the shame
i put up a front
that says i'm strong
you're the only one
who knows its wrong
i could describe my life
but its to long
the only way to express myself
is poems and songs
you might look at me
and see the sign of independence
i have it branded
i wear it on my sleeve
i have to in order to believe
cause ill forget
but you see
it gets deeper yet
we all make mistakes
have our regrets
broken promises
lost bets
but i live with em
i work with em
i build of em
i see through em
you know what i mean do you
i bet you don't
you never did
and you wont
because you're phony
and you don't know me
why should i tell you my story
when you don't care
why should i share
my tragic past
when all you do is judge me
put yourself above me
you could never love
i'm by the edge
they all wanna shove me
they want me gone
i wont let go
i'm holding on
to the truth
i don't need evidence
i'm living proof
no matter what
you can always make it through
