Locked Up Poem by Singleton M. Tate

Locked Up

I started out knowing right from wrong.
I was brought up in church,
singing the Lord's Songs.
I saw the devil was after me.
Countering my every move
he wouldn't let me be.

This world has many traps and pitfalls.
They shimmer like diamonds
to entice my soul. I took
the bait not counting the cost.
Now, I'm Locked Up and all
seems lost!

We're selling ourselves down the drain.
For the Almighty Dollar,
Now, this is Insane.
We'll Lie, Cheat, Rob and Kill!
For the appearance of what
we think in life is real.

Fast Cars, Fast Ladies and All That!
But society has given us,
a way to connect. Being
crammed behind the darkness
of closed doors. I say I'm Locked
Up and down, without any recourse.

I've lost what I worshiped as god.
My friends turned away from me at
the start. I have nothing Inside.
Sold my Hope, and my Will,
now my Pride. I'm as helpless
as helpless can be. Going out of
my mind with some, True Reality.

I played my part all too well.
Let me reassure you, This is
Not a Tall Tale.

Listen to
my words, 'Heed Me' I pray.
LOCKED UP, for Eternity Today!
