Long Lost Trust Poem by Dakota Ellerton

Long Lost Trust

My hands are shaking,
my tongue is pressed to the roof of my mouth.
How could I not tell them?
I lock my fingers together,
and tap them quickly on my knee.
I don't know what I'm going to do.
I constantly check my phone,
I'm just waiting for that message.
I've done wrong, so wrong.
I hate to always look over my shoulder,
but it's really just a habit now.
I change my angle so you can't read my phone,
I lock it so you can't go through it.
I make myself sick over the thought of hurting you,
though it's really all I do.
Still you look me in the eyes,
and tell me how much you trust me.
