Longing Poem by Kerry Rose

Longing

Longing

My heart's desire to be with her
Owns my attention most of the day
My constant relentless companion
I want it to go and to stay

I long for her as she is now
But strangely for who she was then
Every story she tells me about her
Gives me more versions I want to befriend

That little girl I would have played house with
A watching cartoons over cereal friend
Someone to lay in the field and watch stars with
Til dawn's light caused the magic to end

I feel her as the friend that I wished for
Those times when I felt all alone
How strange this timeless connection
Just at the edge of what can be known

We're unwavering friends to confide in
With always our best interests at heart
Sharing consoling and comfort
So effortless right from the start

I cautiously begin to believe that
I can completely surrender my heart
Seems I refound my repeating love mate
Then life's twists sadly caused us to part
