Look At You Now Poem by Jake Kraweckyj

Look At You Now

Look at you now.
We’ve helped you regain
the power of speech
but there’s nothing to say.
Get up and walk.
We’ve thrust life into
your body once more;
our bold new Lazarus.
Focus on the wall,
both eyes this time.
The new glass one
looks better than the
old real one ever did,
honestly.
Now look to my hand.
Feel the strain in your cheek?
That’s probably been there
since we took the
neck brace away.
A common complaint but it beats
shrapnel being there instead.
You’re not smiling.
We’d be scared if you were
at this moment in time;
running before you can walk
only leads to mistakes.
