Look Up! It's 9/11 Poem by Robert Stoddard

Look Up! It's 9/11

Look up!
Find strength to stand,
overcome the crippling pain
as your soul drips to the ground.
Something terrible has happened.
Innocent blood screams for justice
as it plummets,
engulfed in an inferno
caused by something unknown.
The whole country’s eyes watch
as it happens again.
It’s not an accident.

Look up!
Watch the drifting doves
sift unsorted through the air.
Watch your brothers’ and your sons’
hearts fail them
as they thrust themselves into the abyss,
escaping the flames.
Watch as your heroes rush in,
dodging bombs of carcass.
Forcing through the panic
to save the forgotten souls, to save those
who are wrongfully trapped.

Look up!
Don’t loose yourself in thought now.
It’s coming, seek shelter
or you will surely die.
Darkness approaches with increasing pace.
“Are you crazy? ”
“Get away from the windows! ”
“You’ll die if you don’t back away! ”

Look up!
Take your mind off the scattered ash.
Don’t loose yourself as you breathe
your sisters and daughters.
They’re in the air,
there’s nothing left.
Not even blood to
testify of the traitors’ sins.
Regain your senses,
“help save the wounded.”
Don’t fear that none survived.

Look up!
Scream these words as loud as you can,
let the winds carry from sea to sea,
waters transmute from tongue to tongue.
“Unite! ”
Your son is now something more.
He needs your help.
His blood screams from the ash.

Look up!
There’s no time to stop.
Put back on your helmet,
don’t dropp your gun.
Pull the bullet from your leg,
we all know you’re stronger.
Draw strength beyond your own.
Draw it from brother and sister.
Her blood cries for justice
never forsake it.

Look up!
Win the war, our price has been paid.
Remember their names;
build towers to honor.
But among the fallen,
are those who survive.
Remember them always,
now it’s your turn.
Look up! Look up!
Now it’s your turn!
