Looking Back Poem by Mary Champion

Looking Back

Ghostly, unearthly, wan otherworldly;
mysterious, mellow, luminous light;
softly iconic you silver the night.
Mutable; ageless; some call you holy.
Legendary Luna.- Calm and lovely,
shimmering silently veiled in white.
From Earth - like an angel - splendid in flight.
But now we have walked on you- now we see
you are alien- battered and barren.
We stood on your surface and saw on high-
more beautiful than we could imagine -
our blue Earth rise above the horizon.
Your distant perspective opened our eyes
to the plenteous planet we dwell on.
