Looking Same Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Looking Same

Looking same

I need to juxtapose
-the gone years with today.
-Must bring to now my childhood days
-far from being teen…
-Now is the same, as then, all over
-even the "Lift…" or "Elevator…"
-roads, malls and stairs.

Then, small
-around five…

I went to Bazaar-Shah
-in city of Esfahan.

Yes, I worked in that age
-in one of several jobs.

(Either mended-chinaware,
Or rolled the soaked-wool-in-soap-water
-turning it to matt or hat (of namad,)
Or danced in the pots of copper
- (to clean; filled with sand and water,)
Or helped in sales of cotton shoes,
- (Giveh; with cotton sole…)

Once. I sneaked in an oily place
-old wooden door, half-open
- (curious I was as is cat…)

There, I found a small yard
-or a barn; its roof half-fallen.
-In its center a mound
-in its midst a pod
-a leather rein to it tied
-a large dromedary
- (single-hump-camel)

Two round slabs of stone laid
-one still, fixed, other turned
-a "Mary-go-round! "

Attached to a wooden pole
-rising from the center of the stones
-hung a container
- (constantly refilled with cotton seeds.)

Camel wore a blind-fold
-greasy he was and his eyes
-could only see the pathway
- (thin and narrow.)

Walked and walked
-the camel, for long
-but stagnant, in place
- (same place)
-a circle, a short diameter
- (meter or more; not two!)

Driving around, Today
-getting on an elevator,
-or escalator, whenever
-or going shopping
-in a mall; taking walk…

Same camel appears
-in human shape
-vary ages; mainly young…

Their eyes tied
-to the cellular
-unaware
-of the world around!

I smile
-in times
-I sit and watch
-juxtapose the two eras
-in the large gallery of mind!

Then and now
Then and now
Then and now

Kids…camels…
