Lost Friendship Poem by Victoria Gauci

Lost Friendship

I carried a love for a woman,
Something I thought was so rare,
She never loved me like I love her,
The heartbreak just isn't fair,
I loved her for such a long time,
That I thought for a while I'd die,
Who would have thought I'd be deceived,
By this incredible lie,
Why would God let this happen,
When I searched for so many years,
To find this person who touched my heart,
Now I'm all alone with my tears,
Doesn't she see that I am the only friend,
Who would never treat her this way,
I'd knock down every barricade,
Every demon I would slay,
She knows not who I really am,
She is blinded by her fears,
She is stifled by her chosen chains,
She's been imprisoned all these years,
So now I must find a new road,
The leads me away from her,
This love that I carry inside of me,
She simply doesn't deserve.

2011
(
This poem is about a friend I met in high school in 1976.
We bonded so strongly, but then lost contact after she went
to college. I never forgot her and I searched for her for 30 years, finally finding her in 2009. In 2010, we had an exchange of words, and the friendship ended. My sorrow was great. In mid 2011, we reconnected. Apologies were said. All is well.)
