Love Poem by @claremariewithpoetry Clare Marie Dennington

Love

.
Deep in the forest
A tree stood still.
So still, the wind
Could not breathe against him
The stars could not speak against him
The essence of time
Could not work against him.
In time,
The stars bore wings,
Just as the mountains had,
Years ago. Before they stayed.

Deeper
in the forest, still,
Another creature stirred.
Neither blood, nor bone
Neither shadow nor loam.
Deeper in the mystery
Of the earth's scorn for mankind,
and the whisper
Of the wanderer from my dreams.

I laid eyes
Upon his darkened hair,
His manly might
His deepened sound
I feared in fright
Fairy folk did flutter still
‘Neath the wooden leaves and twig
I did see two glances, fair
Befall the man from a maiden's stare
But i, was his maiden, only,
My dreams made it so.

Deeper still, the forest bade
And only wishes darkness made
As floated i, on wings of despair
Disparaged I, did meet his stares
For at last
Our eyes did meet
With forest twigs
Un'eath my feet.
And in desperation my heart did beat,
For what if he didn't love me.

He returned my gaze
And not only that
He rocked with all the fevour
Of his might
To come to me
In courage, i a mere sprite.
He pushed the forest aside
With one manly hand
And found me quick
And gently bound my hand in his.

For love was writ
Upon our door
Since the night of dreams
Befell me.
