Love Is Not Pie Poem by Kev EmPea

Love Is Not Pie

When I took the gift of your love
In great big bites
I did not know that I was getting a slice
Of vice and forbidden fruit
Or when I bit the crust
That was all there was
Until trust was lost among the crumbs
I scrabbled to gather hungrily.

Love is not pie
To be divided and withheld
Ordered or bought
Fought over or stopped
Like the x’s of a text
Or a tiger pet name.
Or texted mornings & goodnights
Was it a lie
You told us for so long?
When you held my heart in trust
Giving everything physical
Of yourself but concealing
Everything else of you
That mattered most?

It was glorious what we did
And brave
But so sad that in the end
You could not believe in us
and our bright future
For petty fears
And little things divided us
Like pie
Love is not Pie my love
But it can wither and die
Deprived of care
Like fruit on the vine
Deprived of water.

I did try
To make you see
That my Love is not pie
I even cried
Wept hot tears for a Love lost
Needlessly
When we could have had
The earth and sky
But for lack of faith and a lie
And love cut up piecemeal and left to die.

Keve this is very clever and I enjoyed it a lot. I like the way you take something so basic like a pie and compare it with human emotion. Perfect Imagery and great content. Steve
