Love Not Less For Rain Poem by Vadakkumpurath Ramesan

Love Not Less For Rain

This time we heard
No yearn of the hornbill
Heralding the monsoon arrival
The monsoon had all fury
And ample with its shower
That might quenched the hornbill!
The rain was incessant
Enough to climb us on rafts
To move to the tombs of earth
To put up our hutments anew.
The rain was tormented
That lashed against us
But the trees never uprooted
Embraced the rain with their hands
That clutched the rain
To put their kisses incessantly!
The trees celebrated the monsoon
With knee deep water
As the scorching sun
Dried her skin and hands
And the thirsty birds
Perched on her bloodless hands
And the men laid at her
Protruded roots yet blood less
Yearn for the rain God to Please!
We dreamed of good harvest
As we moved on raft in search
To nest and to sleep!
The trees too dreamed
Of a flowery spring
And a youthful return
With birds and men sings
And perching on them.
