Love Potions… Poem by Ray X. Johnson

Love Potions…

(Don’t even try it!)

Don’t add insult to injury
Promising me a world
You have yet, yourself to embrace…
Leave me alone!
Don’t write, don’t call,
Don’t even think of me
When you are lonely or fall.
I will start anew and soon…
For the memories of you
Are like pus from an old wound,
The thought trifling, scabby in form,
Hard & corroded.
Even if I allowed it to heal,
The scar itself is ugly to sight
And as deep as the Pacific…
It’s over!
No… No… No… No!
Best believe sugar,
The medicine you have to offer
That you say will ease the pain…
Is the same medicine you used,
When running your last game.
I recognize the ingredients;
An ounce of I’m sorry
A teaspoon of you don’t understand
A cup of empty promises,
& a stick of give me one more chance…
Mixed with spicy sex
And a dab of emotions…
You know!
Your let me back into yr life potion,
Don’t even try it!
