Love's Memory Lane Poem by Nweke Emmanuel

Love's Memory Lane

Rating: 4.8

In the ocean shore
On that great federal eve
There they saw
And like a weird arch image there he sits
His heart as at that time was thrilled with joy
And such harmonious madness flowed from his lips
For it was his fortune scarcely to have seen her

Through the whole tenor of his school day time
The face of one glittered in his mind's eye
Thinking all was love forgot
And a day, prays, draw them nigh
And now on Love's plains the lovers know
The equal right impartial heaven bestows
Nice-sweet…………………they thought it was
Damned- - - - but God alone knows why
Why love? That arrow broke at last
And the he…….. A mortal of the careless kind
Who chose to go where're he had a mind
And never dreamed his lady was concerned
Unknowing what he did

Alas! He leaped amidst a murderous band
At that- - - she nursed him in a distant cave
And how his madness went away
As in the murmurs of a dream
He heard her breath his name

On her scrutiny to his world
With many resolutions all her hope
Showed what he were, a high and a fearless soul.

Then to a new transition
When she felt her heart was crushed
But the soil of common life at that
Was too hot to tread upon.

But for those first affections
Those shadowy recollections
No mortal- - - -no immortal
Nor all that is at enmity with joy
Can utterly abolish nor destroy
In these two lovers
In whose memory is green
Their fairy tale of love forgotten.

A well articulated narrative love poem penned in poetic diction. A nice piece of poetry. Thanks for sharing.
