Love's Simple Rules Poem by Dave Alexander

Love's Simple Rules

I want to share with you, a few simple thoughts,
Some of life’s lessons that I’ve been taught.
I don’t claim to know anything, or everything,
But these little pearls of wisdom are what I can bring.

First up is easy, you will get hurt by someone you love,
Intentional or not, we don’t all fit hand in glove.
So hunker down, grit your teeth and get through it,
Because no one knows who cupid’s arrow will hit.

The second is simple but full of harsh truth,
I have the scars, I can show you the proof.
Don’t betray the one who truly cares,
The pain they feel, they will surely share.

The last is obvious and I’m sure you already know,
If you don’t feel the same, don’t put on a show.
Be honest, be true, end their doubts,
But be warned, there may be tears and shouts.

These rules are easy and should be followed,
Or you may find your life emptied and hollowed.
Stick to the truth, you can’t go far wrong,
You’ll surely find the one, that to them, you belong.
