Let me be the darkness within your soul.
For you are the light in mine, sweet angel,
Mending my shattered life to make me whole
And healing my heart when it doth tremble.

I am a sword keeping your foes at bay,
A shield of flesh and blood against your fears,
A guide to home when life casts you astray,
And the one guarding you from pain and tears

Never shall my heart cease to yearn for thee!
Your eyes, your smile, and glistening light
Embrace me in love’s tender agony
And cast away the shadows of the night.

Yet, though my spirit is helplessly yours,
I am not the one your heart so adores.
