Love Strained At A Distance Poem by Joshua Mccoy

Love Strained At A Distance

The best way to counter act missing someone dear to you when they wave their final goodbye is drift away from: intense and serious
To
Best friends with benefits
To
Close friends
Then crumble to
Loose buddies
As hurtful as the drift may be,
It is an absolute must to protect oneself from the intense longing for a shadow that can never be touched for love ever again. That shadow that rests within a heart in waiting is like harboring cancer, hoping and praying for the distant cure at the cost of one’s
Life,
Dreams,
Goals,
Liberty,
and Sanity.
Time stands still in the name of love for a heart unable to cope with the present until death approaches to end it all.
This form of protection may be the ultimate defense against a soon to be lost loved one but, when your thoughts and emotions are denied full access to the one you care about most;
Anger arises
Emotions of trust are stirred
Loyalty waivers and separation occurs
Love travels to the lips of another
And heart, body and soul follow closely behind

Not as close as we used to be
Not as close as we should be
All for the sake of saving a heart unbearable pain
A worthy sacrifice for the tears that fall
In reminiscence of a loving valley vibrant with life
Now dwindling to a speck of blue in a sea of red

I understand completely, please spare no words of encouragement for this traveling observer of life.
I have lost on the battlefield of love to the ultimate defense.
