Love....You Not - Poem by Aminath Neena

I wish
'Mr. Forget”
would visit me soon
A supposed medicine man

Since ancient times
For I have been severely afflicted
By this fatal disease
The most ruthless of its kind

Beginning quite harmless
A simple seed
When tended to
With the right conditions

And the chemical components
In alliance
With the biological proportions
Grows a deep rooted plant

Bearing fruits and flowers
For the blessed, It becomes
the greatest of joy
While weaving a web

Of everlasting woe
For the less fortunate
It had struck its virus

When, unassuming

I had inhaled

The scent of the blooming rose

Offered to me

As a gift

For I had been captivated

By its unique charm

Since then

I have been thrashed

And skinned

Like a husk of rice

Skin blemished and naked

I am vulnerable

To Mr. Gravity

Of Newton

And Sir, Physics

Of roll a ton

Hanging upside down

Somewhere between reality

And the flowing absurdity

I suffer endlessly

And now

The ailment Has dispatched

It’s deadly Roots

to the center

Of my being

So, Ms. Memories

Keep on stabbing my heart

Over and over again

While Mr. Remember

Keeps on applying salt

On the wounds

Day and night

Oh how I wish

they would leave me alone

I had taken

Oral doses of “time”

As a self medication

And have applied “ignore”

As an external ointment

But to no avail

Ms Memories and Mr. Remember

Together, seem to enjoy

inflicting pain on me

And I pray to Almighty

That soon

Mr. Forget would arrive

From the eastern horizon

On a white horse

With the right antidote

Before these barbarians

take over

My soul Completely

And I lose Ms. Sanity

My identical twin

Which, will rob me

of my own “Identity”

And I will cease to exist,

Till infinity
