Loved As Wife Poem by Chukwuebuka Adebayo

Loved As Wife

It was nestled amid rolling hills,
Adaora, with her laughter that heals.
Her skin curved out from the yellow sun,
And her gentle spirit touched everyone.

You were the pride of your parents' eyes,
Gemstone, when looked to endless sighs.
When the years flew by, Adaora grew older,
Just then her parents began to grow colder.

For they saw in her a woman so fine,
That they wished her beauty never grow line.
They dreamed of a husband who would cherish her so,
Making her happy wherever she would go.

But Adaora had her own dreams and desires,
To spread her wings and ignite her own fires.
She longed for journeys to see the world's sights,
To stand on her own and reach for new heights.

It was raining, it was sinking on that day,
That a young man came by and stole her heart away.
He loved her fiercely, with a passion uncured
That Adaora knew he was the one she must lured

Her parents were hesitant, unsure of this man,
She knew deep down that he was her plan.
She married him under the clear blue sky,
And bid her parents a tearful goodbye.

As Adaora settled into her new life as a wife,
She found a hatred that added every strife.
Her husband gave her a blow in the breast
Lying on her bed with tears and couldn't rest.

For she knew what she was dreamt to be;
Her parents should have wished her chi
Tradition allowed divorce and her another life—
For she was her father's only daughter loved as wife.
