Luke In His Eighties Poem by Francis Duggan

Luke In His Eighties

Rating: 5.0

Old Luke in his eighties once did say to me
I am not what my mum and dad wished me to be
Like my older deceased brother Dr John for years a respected M D
But we all look at life in our ways differently
Mum amd dad and my brother John in eternal rest lay
And life's end for me cannot be far away
Soon i will be with my beloved Joan in her grave
Five years ago she succumbed to cancer to her end she was brave
My son and daughter and my grandchildren sometimes visit me
But mostly i must do with my own company
Luke who worked on building sites all of his working life
Alone in his eighties without his beloved wife
His mum and dad who for him had a great career plan
In their kind hearted son they did raise a good man.
