Lunch Missed And Dismissed Poem by Obinna Okah

Lunch Missed And Dismissed

Rating: 5.0

On the hazardous fence
Saddled and gazed a cat
Sharply glimpsing a lizard
And trying not to buzz, tweet, gurgle nor beep
Like African parents
Eavesdropping, pacing and so Keening

Down and up, nether the head
Left and right moved the eyes
Faster than Usain Bolt
As the shadowed paws
shift to let it see
Searching things on it's radius
Like a toddler watching nothing

The belly rejoiced over this uncooked party jellof rice
As hunger feasted with the intestines
With the claws eager to scratch, tear and wear

I can!
I can! suggested the mind
For the tooth that seldom decline
As the body reputed towards the prey
The high jump went up into the cloudy air
Patiently waiting for gravity,
oh! descend

The cat landed
But
Away carted the rouge headed lizard
In full smile, nodding, licking and tweaking
Just like a jerk
The cat hissing in reassurance

Lunch dismissed and missed
