Lyin' Hypocritical Politicians Poem by L MILTON HANKINS

Lyin' Hypocritical Politicians

Hypocrisy is so pervasive in their political discourse
So sad to see changes in point of view, of course,
So often those in high office fail to set an example
Like shifting sand, they change, show no remorse.

How does one explain contradictions in speeches
Flagrantly asserted drain like blood-sucking leeches
We know not on which side the glad handers fall
Just how far into our minds their word reaches.

What are we to think when our leaders speak lies
Deny what they said a week ago without impunity
Sometimes one can see the duplicity in their eyes
Thinking we forget their words as time passes by.

How does one explain the reelection of rogues
Who twist and turn like break dancers do
Coming around to whatever style is in vogue
Appealing the most, I suspect, to forgetful folk.

Here is the sad truth about them, I fear: They only say what they think we want to hear.
