If I were the only poet left in the world today
And all the great verses and rhymes of the past
Were suddenly swept away in the awful crush
Of today's destructive and cacophonous voices
Were there only my paltry feeble lines remaining,
Is there a single word or phrase worth forever?
Maybe one, spanning a lifetime of humble musing
When I measure me next to Angelou or Burns
And what would that one memorable line be?
Presumptuous to think that I might have written
Something significantly of note to live in infamy
Or be called to future's memory spoken thoughtfully.
'Something significantly of note to live in infamy' sometimes that which we write, which we might consider our least write, is liked the most by others
Throw Away Lines Can Become The Most Liked sometimes that which we write which we might consider our least write is liked the most our most liked write Inspired by the poem 'If I Were The Only Poet Left In The World Today' by the poet L MILTON HANKINS. Dedicated to the poet L MILTON HANKINS.
I wrote the poem 'In Dark Night Fallen Civilizations: Poetic Voices Must Rise In Eternity' inspired by the poem 'If I Were The Only Poet Left In The World Today' by the poet L MILTON HANKINS and dedicated to the poet L MILTON HANKINS.
Well executed with fantastic imagination. So beautiful. Thanks a lot.
A poet's wisdom is a combined wisdom that flow from ancestors. What are we without them! A great poem, thanks for sharing.
I enjoyed reading this poem. I like the way the poet asks himself these questions
This poem has inspired me to post one of my own, called "If I were the Only One", just posted a few minutes ago. Thank you for the inspiration!
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
'And all the great verses and rhymes of the past Were suddenly swept away in the awful crush Of today's destructive and cacophonous voices' were this to happen, humanity would restart writing again, new voices perhaps new languages, always out of the old comes the new I liked your poem, if all the poets had left, singers would still sing lyrical, at least those lines in poetic verse chorus.
