Maine Sunrise Poem by B. V. Dahlen

Maine Sunrise

Coyly peeks the chilly sun
Above the mist
Which lightly clings
To pond and stone
While loon and osprey
Dip beneath the veil
That coils and undulates
With gliding wings.

The trees encircle
Like tarnished jewels
Around a clouded looking glass
Displaying dimly in the autumn dawn.

The day begins
In silver, and beneath
The shroud, a shard
Of crystal sparkles shortly
Before the gauze descends again.

I breathe the moist and heavy air
Cushioned on the mossy bank
Greeting the day
With reverend silence.
