Makin' Guacamole Poem by Rick Elpers

Makin' Guacamole

Two hearts now separated
like a split avocado seed
that once had potential
to grow mighty and fruitful.
Even when a tree takes years
to bare fruit, it perseveres
though weather and drought
continuing to express foliage,
flower until its day.
Little buds prosper to hundreds
of wonderful opportunities
to nourish, give life, taste delicious
give pleasure, show beauty
in its unique special qualities
that nowhere exists another alike
Only now, fiction rears its virtue
through dreams of what could be
in my perfect world.
To graft two halves back together
Watering, bonding, watching
new life, yet even more seasoned
 to face an uncertain
hopeful vision of that very fiction,
turned reality sweeter
than ever I could know.
