Man In The Mirror Poem by Damilola Nelson

Man In The Mirror

Man in the mirror

In your reflections, I see we have a lot in common,
As we have shared a lot of Trials and tribulations

You have endured a lot just as I have courted the shame
But you cannot give up just as I cannot,

So we both must continue to strive,
Lest we give them a blank cheque of scorn,

Man in the mirror!

I see the lines of pain and struggle
I see the dreams all almost fall out like blinkers from the eyes of the dreamer

I see the failures that we both embraced countless times in the footprints of time

You have tasted the ill-fated bitterness of defeat
As I have suckled from the saplings of its sweet-scented memoirs,

And from its ashes, we have risen and risen again like the Phoenix

Man in the mirror!

Nobody cares how many times you fall,
So don't stay long on the red earth,

Be rest assured the roll of drums will embrace victory,
And soon all we forget the mockery and laughter,

So let's not give up.
